June Breakfast Briefing 2026

Join us on Wednesday 10th June for our the latest instalment of our Breakfast Briefing series, hosted by our solicitor Amie Trainor.
In this months session, we will be offering a case law update focusing on recent developments related to employment law. The cases cover topics such as conditional offers of employment, collective consultation and conduct during protected conversations. We will discuss what lessons employers can learn from the judgements and as always, keep some time for questions at the end! We look forward to seeing you there.

As well as hearing from BOC experts on the topics of Laser cutting, Gas safety and BOC’s Gas Safety Awareness training PSOs, their new REArc initiative (Reduce Emissions in Arc Welding) and Hydrogen fuel switching/alternative fuels…
Visitors can expect to see their cylinder filling operation where they fill approximately 5000 cylinders per week, and act as a distribution hub, sorting, and handling approximately 6000 cylinders per week of transient products. Onsite they have liquid Oxygen, Argon, Nitrogen and CO2 storage vessels for filling 300bar industrial cylinders, as well as filling hospitality gases and Cryospeed mini-bulk tankers. They will also take visitors over to their onsite retail operation the Gas and Gear, where customers can purchase and collect gas cylinders as well as hardgoods, gas equipment and PPE and where they will be demonstrating a zero-emission hydrogen fuel cell powered mobile lighting tower, which utilised BOCs 200W Hymera Fuel Cell together with the Hydrogen ‘Genie’ cylinders.
Visitors will be required to bring, safety shoes, high-vis jacket/vest.

The SELF programme encompasses six face-to-face facilitated workshops, covering the range of leadership skills, and with a focus on your development as a leader. Feedback from our previous sessions has been fantastic.
Specifically designed for and targeted at the Engineering and Manufacturing sector in Scotland, SELF provides face-to-face learning with structured modules, development goals and time and space to implement the learning between sessions. This programme is also a fantastic opportunity to build and develop a network across our membership, connecting participants to Scottish industry.
The structured modules will enable Managers and prospective Leaders to make the step from day-to-day management, to developing their skills across both tactical management and strategy. The modules will enable you to get the best from your people through an in-depth examination of performance management, delegation, coaching and how to help their teams develop and grow. It will also develop your personal skills – making you a better communicator, improving your presentation skills for maximum effect, and improving your ability to influence others.
Above all, these sessions will enable you to understand yourself better, understand the leadership role and give you the tools and support to enable you to continue to grow as a manager, and as a leader.
SELF is suitable for:
- Middle to Senior Managers
- Junior or First Level Managers or Supervisors with potential to develop
- Those whose roles are widening or changing and will require leadership skills
- Graduates, Graduate Trainees and Graduate Apprentices
- Any other staff who would benefit from developing their leadership skills

- Performance Management; We look at creating a culture of Performance Management, how to develop our good performers and how to improve poor performance;
- Discipline and Grievance; In this session we cover the entire discipline and grievance processes, including investigations, hearings, outcomes and the legal framework that underpins both;
- Courageous Conversations; Our most challenging topic – we look at ways to challenge poor conduct or behaviour within teams, and a focus on achieving better outcomes;
- Team Building – We look at what makes an effective team, how we can build and develop our people within those teams to achieve their full potential
Sessions will be participative, and as always will give the opportunity to work on case studies.
