AI tools are already in widespread informal use across Scottish Engineering member companies, but formal governance lags significantly behind adoption. 43% of respondents estimate a minority of non-production staff are using AI tools regularly, with a further 17% estimating a majority are doing so — yet only 12% formally record usage. 68% of companies have delivered no formal training or guidance. On strategy, 74% have not yet developed a formal AI strategy, though 35% intend to do so. Only 5% have a fully endorsed strategy in active use.
