Join us on Friday 23 June, 0830-1030 as we celebrate International Women in Engineering Day. This session will provide a networking opportunity for members of our industry and focus on how we can encourage more women into STEM, whilst helping those already in this incredible industry reach their full potential. Help us celebrate the amazing women of our sector.

Our Speakers 

Shona Clive – Scottish Engineering

Project Lead for the Rail Cluster Builder and the Forth and Tay Offshore Cluster; Regional Chair of Women in Rail Scotland

Shona Clive is project lead for the Rail Cluster Builder and the Forth and Tay Offshore cluster, working with the team at Scottish Engineering since 2020. Shona’s previous role was Head of Marketing and Communications at Babcock’s Rail business with over 27 years experience in the rail sector. Her passion for Equality, Diversity and Inclusion led her to taking up the role of Regional Chair of Women in Rail Scotland from 2018 and more recently Vice Chair and Acting Chair of the wider Women in Rail organisation. 

Natasha Pell – Wallace McDowall

Process Engineer; Scottish Engineering Young Engineer of The Year 2023; STEM Ambassador

Natasha is currently completing her 2^nd year studies at the University of Strathclyde in Mechanical Engineering with a passion for innovation and development. She is actively involved in the wider engineering community by planning events with the department’s Students’ Association and IMechE’s young member’s panel. Natasha also mentors young people as a STEM ambassador.

Simultaneously, Natasha is a trainee process improvement engineer at Wallace McDowall in Prestwick focusing on increasing the efficiency of work centres and introducing automation to the business. Introducing cobotic technology to the shop floor, has underlined the advantages in today’s resource constrained climate, whilst helping to upskill and engage the current workforce.

Debbie McCaig – Engenda Group

Project Piping Engineer

Debbie McCaig is a Project Piping Engineer with Engenda Group. She started her career as an Apprentice CAD Technologist with Altrad Babcock in 2012, where she continued with her studies Part-Time, gaining both a BSc (hons) then Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Glasgow Caledonian University. Her design career began in Process Piping Design, mostly being based onsite working in Petrochemical and Pharmaceutical industries.

Now in her current role, Debbie leads a team of Piping Designers as a Piping Engineer as well as multi-discipline projects as a Project Engineer. She is also progressing towards Chartership with the Institution of Mechanical Engineers.

Debbie hopes to encourage younger generations to consider perusing careers within engineering and design, particularly through accredited Apprenticeships.
