Many member companies are continuing to feel the economic impact of COVID-19 and are investigating flexible ways to manage staff costs whilst maintaining operational effectiveness, especially with the Job Retention Scheme winding down at the end of October. This can be particularly challenging when workload and orders are fluctuating, so perhaps a full redundancy situation is not required.
Options for a member company to consider are to lay-off employees or place them on short-time working. It may also be a valid option to change the employees’ terms and conditions. All of these options have advantages and disadvantages. The next of our Scottish Engineering Breakfast Briefing series will take place on Wednesday 7th October 2020 from 08:00 – 08:30 via Zoom, where a member of our legal team will guide member companies through the process for lay-off, short-time working and changing T&Cs.
