October’s Breakfast Briefing – Prevention of harassment: All reasonable steps

Catch up with October’s Breakfast Briefing – Prevention of harassment: All reasonable steps

From 30 October 2026, legal protections against sexual harassment will be strengthened under the Employment Rights Act 2025. Employers will be required to take “all reasonable steps” to prevent sexual harassment in the workplace and can be held liable for harassment by third parties, such as customers, clients, contractors and visitors.

This practical session explored what sexual harassment is, how workplace “banter” can cross the line into unlawful conduct, the preventative measures organisations should be taking now, and what the new “all reasonable steps” duty is likely to mean in practice, drawing on current EHRC guidance.
